Don't ever give up! At TJHS, we got your back. Terrence Talley really delivered today with a lively assembly and one that will not be soon forgotten. Thank you to all of our students and staff that came together as Tornado Nation!

TJHS students gathered in two groups, 5 & 6th and 7 & 8th at the See You At The Pole. Students and staff prayed and also told what they were thankful for this school year.

Mrs. Foil’s 7th grade Geography Class finished studying Latitude and Longitude. Each class competed in groups using the ceiling for a lLatitude and Longitude Competition. The winning groups received a free homework pass.

Students in 8th grade ELA and 8th grade science classes are both using the CER response format across curriculum to support claims, evidence, and reasoning when developing their writing skills.

A school assembly they will NEVER forget is coming to TJHS. On Thurdsay, Sept 28 at 9 am we will welcome Terrence Talley. He brings a message of hope and encouragement everywhere he goes and empowers our kids to do the same for each other!

The TJHS Homework Help Club starts tomorrow, Thursday Sept 21. If you would like to get some more information please call the office to have a packet sent home with your son or daughter. Thank you!

Taylorville Junior High School’s 7th grade STEM class is studying energy and the environment. In this unit, Mrs. Wagner’s students will be investigating different types of energy sources including fossil fuels, solar and wind energy. Friday September 15, the class visited the local Christian County Coal Mine Museum. Mr. Chuck Martin spoke to the students about the history of coal and coal mining in Christian County. The students learned about many of the tools and artifacts on display and toured the replica of a coal mine tunnel. Some of the students found family members on the Coal Miners’ Wall of Fame. Others were excited to learn about the Mine Wars of 1932-35 that happened in the area. “I am so happy that the kids liked it! My own kids and I enjoyed the museum when we visited this summer and I wanted to share it with my students. We are lucky to have this opportunity in town. Mr. Martin and the Board of Directors really have put together a nice collection.” At the end of the visit, Mr. Martin gave each student a bag with some Coal and Fluorspar, compliments of the Illinois Department of Mines and Minerals.

The 8th grade ELA department at Taylorville Jr. High recently received the Illinois Retired Teachers Association grant. Mrs. Alberssen, Mrs. Graves, and Ms. Cummins will use the grant money to purchase new novels for 8th grade students. Great job and the novel is "Touching Spirit Bear" for those interested. A very good read with lots of relevant connections for our TJHS scholars. Pic: L-R, Ms. Cummins, Mrs. Graves, Mrs. Alberssen, and Mr. Bruder
